In the 1990s, Seth Grae set out to sell a reactor fueled with thorium, which is more plentiful than uranium. But along the way, his company also designed a component for thorium reactors that it says would be useful in conventional uranium reactors as well.

Slide Rule Cedes to 'the Traveling Wave'

Every reactor now running in the United States was designed in the era of the slide rule, according to Nathan Myhrvold, the former chief technology officer at Microsoft, who says new ones should be designed with computers.
