LED lamps ... and their claims!

In a press release, the manufacturer claims that this LED lamp 'imitates the behaviour of an incandescent halogen lamp and hence will not cause any problems when replacing incandescent halogen lamps with it'.

Now, first of all, regular visitors to this site will notice very little resemblance of these current curves to the usual 'behaviour' of halogen lamps, which represent pure ohmic loads.

LED lamps ... fans and noises

Unfortunately this is not yet all. When we speak of noise here in this environment of our Leonardo ENERGY website we usually borrow this term for describing any electrical disturbance or EMC problem. In this case, however, we are confronted with actual, physical acoustic noise – not so much really but just enough to let a Swiss ENT physician go crazy when he had installed 30 of these lamps in a room where among others ear tests are carried out! So this lamp will not find any fans because there is already one inside! Would you believe it?

LED lamps, electronic converters and ...

Electronic transformers or converters for 12 V halogen lighting raise many a claim over conventional transformers made from lots of iron and copper. One is that the output voltage is regulated and hence offsets variances of the load. Variances of input voltage they do not balance out, but this they also do not claim. So much as an aside.
